KUALA LUMPUR, To ensure that patients can be served efficiently when seeking emergency treatment, Sunway Medical Centre (SMC) has introduced ultrasound or sonography imaging technology enhanced with artificial intelligence (AI).Assistant Medical Director and Emergency Medical Consultant of SMC, Dr Nur Elayni Borhan said the use of the latest technology helps doctors make diagnoses more quickly and accurately, especially to heart attack and stroke victims who are wheeled into the emergency department. She said this emphasised the importance of integration between professional development and advancement of equipment in improving emergency care outcomes.'Like emergency departments around the world, emergency physicians need to make quick decisions and it becomes easier with the help of accurate and clear images. Automated technology and mobile equipment such as AI ultrasound machines allow doctors to save time and obtain the necessary information for immediate action to be taken.'It is capable of making complicated processes such as trauma assessment easier by using automatic calculations by focusing on the patient's condition level, for example on the heart and lungs,' she said in a statement here today. She said the AI ultrasound machine is also able to list possible situations that occur to patients from internal bleeding to pneumothorax, besides helping doctors to make better clinical decisions for patients in the emergency department.Indirectly, she said it can also reduce the waiting time to receive urgent treatment. At the same time, Dr Nur Elayni said continuous training also plays a vital role in ensuring that staff in the emergency department are always proficient with the latest medical practices.'Our medical officers and nurses often participate in Continuing Medical Education (CME), life support courses and medical conferences in the country and abroad to ensure they are always up to date with current developments,' she said.Meanwhile, she also emphasised the importance of knowing how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) which is a life-saving technique performed in times of emergency when the heartbeat or breathing stops.'Equip yourself with the basic knowledge of first-aid because it can save the life of your loved ones,' she advised.Source: BERNAMA News Agency
