For the first time, Tunku Mahkota of Johor Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim is leading the Kembara Mahkota Johor (KMJ) 2023 tour which began today.
The Tunku Mahkota's royal convoy includes his consort Che' Puan Besar Khaleeda Bustamam and his siblings - Tunku Temenggong Tunku Idris Iskandar, Tunku Panglima Tunku Abdul Rahman Al-Haj, Tunku Putera Tunku Abu Bakar Al-Haj - and Tunku Tun Aminah’s husband Datuk Dennis Muhammmad Abdullah.
According to Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar Facebook page today, Johor Royal Council president Datuk Dr Abdul Rahim Ramli flagged off the convoy from the Istana Pasir Pelangi grounds this morning.
This year's 23rd KMJ edition will travel 879 kilometres to all the 10 districts in the state.
KMJ was inspired by Sultan Ibrahim in 2001 when the ruler was the Tunku Mahkota of Johor, with the aim of forging closer ties with the people.
Since then, KMJ has become one of Johor's main annual events.
The tour is making a comeback after a three-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
