Ministry Advances to Second Phase After Over 7 Million Backs ‘Today I Do Not Use Plastic Bags!’ Campaign

H.E. Dr. Eang Sophalleth, Minister of Environment, on Wednesday urged local authorities at all levels to participate in the campaign to reduce the use of plastic bags and transition to the second phase – being the campaign to clean cities, provinces, and the country.

According to the ministry’s news release, the initiative begins with establishing a clean ‘home’ and society, creating a beautiful environment for the younger generation and attracting investors and tourists.

With the clean and heartfelt participation of nearly 4 million students and nearly 1 million people, it is crucial for achieving cleanliness on land, water, and in the air, said the source, underlining that in addition to the generous involvement of nearly 4 million students, we encourage continued commitment to this cleanliness movement, contributing to tree planting efforts aimed at expanding forest cover by 60 percent by 2050.

The green sustainability emerging from the pure hearts of students will ensure a clean, sustainable environme
nt-aligned with the priority direction of the Chakra Strategy in the field of the environment for 2023-2028, it added.

Cultivating a clean culture among students leads to long-term success. If children adopt clean habits and refrain from using plastic bags now, these positive thoughts and behaviours will endure throughout their lives and be passed onto future generations. This enduring beauty is a source of pride for the Cambodian nation in this generation and will continue into the next.
